Panhandle Water Planning

Region A Panhandle Water Planning Group     |     Groundwater Management Area 1

Water Planning in the Texas Panhandle

Since the mid-1900s, the State of Texas has pursued legislative action and created governmental bodies to ensure Texans have a secure water supply and that protections are in place which encourage water conservation for posterity.

The PWPG engages in comprehensive water planning and management to ensure that the water needs of all Texas are met for years to come.

GMA 1 develops standards and management objectives to provide for the most efficient use of groundwater and establish desired future conditions for relevant aquifers in the joint planning area.

Public Involvement

The PWPG and GMA 1 conduct all functions during open meetings in an open and participatory manner. This public involvement helps direct the planning and determine which water management strategies to recommend.
